Conversational Spanish (Loyda Burk)
$210 for 10 weeks - 20 hours. Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00-2:00, beginning September 9.
Conversational Spanish for home schoolers is an introduction to Spanish language and culture. This course develops the four skills of language learning: reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the foreign language. Students will be exposed to basic pronunciation, different language functions (e.g., expressing opinions, asking for directions), basic vocabulary (e.g., food, clothing), simple grammatical structures (e.g., verb forms, prepositions, relative pronouns), and we will compare and contrast American and Latino/Spanish cultures.
The main objectives of Conversational Spanish Level One are:
- understand simple questions and commands in familiar topic areas
- understand simple conversations and speech on familiar topics at a slower than normal speed
- maintain limited face-to-face conversations about familiar topics
- use the target language to communicate basic needs, ask and answer simple questions
- meet limited practical writing needs by creating statements or questions that are within the structural (grammar) and lexical (vocabulary) parameters of the course
- initiate and respond to simple statements
- demonstrate familiarity with selected aspects of Hispanic culture(s)
