Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does "Caritas" mean? The name Caritas is taken from the Latin phrase "Veritatem facientes in caritate," which translates as "Speaking the truth in love." "Caritate" is the form of "caritas" used as an object of a preposition, and it means lovingkindness. The phrase comes from our school verse, Ephesians 4:15: "Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ." What is your vision for the future? How large do you want the school to become? Our goal is to reach 50 students in the near future and stay at that size. We want to maintain our family atmosphere and small class sizes. Do you plan to stay in Hudson?Yes, as long as we fit in the First Federated Church building. If we outgrow it, we will look for a building in the Hudson area. What is your policy toward part-time students? We allow part-time (home-schooled) students to take any of our courses, and to come and go during the school day according to their schedules. If a student takes all five academic subjects, then we require that he or she be full-time and also take Art, Music, and Drama. Do you give tuition breaks for families in full-time Christian service.Yes. The amount of the discount depends upon need. How large are your classes? The classes usually range in size from three to 15 students, and the average size is about six. Do you offer classes in theology? How does being a Christian school affect what and how you teach? We do not offer classes in theology, but we do have Chapel every morning. All of our teachers are committed Christians, and they teach from a Christian perspective. Connections are frequently made to the Bible and to the Christian life, especially in literature, history, and science. Do you have sports teams? We began a co-ed soccer team in the spring of 2005. We have a physical education teacher and offer a weekly PE class, where many different sports are played. Are you accredited? We are not accredited by an independent agency, but we are recognized by the Department of Education, approved by the school district, and have a private school tax exempt status. We will not begin an accreditation process until we have our own building. Have your graduates gone on to college?Yes, 87% of our graduates to date have continued their education at the colleges of their choice. Do you accept students with learning disabilities and/or IEPs?We have accepted such students, and will continue to on an individual basis. Will you accept a transfer student mid-year?Yes, and we will do our best to match up courses to those the student has been taking. What is a typical Caritas student like? The Caritas student is typically one who is eager to learn and committed to study; a Christian, who is active in church and youth group; one who gets along well with others and is positive about school life; and one who is willing to do the required work. Is Caritas a missions organization?Yes. We are called to build the Kingdom of God by building up his people. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are all called to be witnesses. We should always be ready to share the gospel; not only in words but also in our actions. We want to be witnesses by caring for our students and their families, and by being good neighbors to the local community. Though we should not be of the world we are in the world; we are not an isolated institution removed from our society. Is Caritas non-denominational?Yes. We have teachers and students from many different denominations. We want to work side by side with local churches and families to raise their children in a Christ-centered, loving, and caring way. |
